FAQ

Before your stay

All office spaces are equipped with an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Our standard equipment is for PC.

If your are using Mac and require an Apple mouse and keyboard, please inform the administration under ‘My stay’ before arrival. If you require a desktop (PC or Mac) or ergonomic equipment, please specify this under ‘My stay’.

However, we can only offer standardised software and solutions provided through our partnership with USIT. For specialty software, licensed or purchased, the expenses can be covered by the project if approved by the PI in advance.

Yes, most researchers coming to CAS bring their own laptops.

However, please note that we can only offer basic IT support during your stay if you do not have a CAS-provided computer. This is because the Centre and our IT provider, USIT, do not have the necessary administrative access to provide full support.

Basic support includes help connecting to the network, installing printers, and using the Centre’s AV equipment.

CAS encourages researchers who bring their own laptops to check with their supplier if they can get sufficient IT support while in Norway before travelling.

If the laptop is provided by the employer, you should check with your local IT support if there are any regional restrictions set on the device that may cause trouble when travelling to Oslo.

If the laptop is provided by a Norwegian institution, you should ensure that the computer is compatible with UiO services and protocols.

CAS will provide accommodation for visiting researchers as long as they do not reside in Oslo or the surrounding area. This applies to PIs and fellows for their residency, as well as affiliated researchers and guests for their visiting period.

Our Centre partners with Frogner House Apartments (FHA) to rent flats in the vicinity of CAS.

Affiliated researchers and guests staying for less than 10 days will be booked into hotels unless otherwise specified. The Centre partners with Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus and Scandic Solli.

CAS will make all the arrangements for accommodations. Each fellow will receive information about their flats by email at the end of the month prior to their arrival.

Accommodations for guests can only be booked through the PI.

Fellows should log in to the Centre’s intranet to submit information under ‘My Stay’.

Here, each fellow will get an overview of all stays currently planned at CAS. You can update, add, or delete any additional information about your stay.

Note that only the PI can make changes to the dates. This is because the recidency period is decided by the PI. If changes to the arrival and/or departure date occure, please email both the PI and CAS.

It is important that all fellows provide CAS with any and all necessary information so that we can provide a flat suited for their needs.

Please, do not share any sensitive information with us in the online form. A simple "due to health reasons" will suffice as argumentation.

All flats are fully furnished, including everything the fellows need from tableware and cooking utensils to bedding, sheets, and towels. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are both included.

Cleaning services are not provided by CAS on an regular basis, but we will carry out an ‘end-of-tenancy cleaning’ after departure.

Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors in all flats.

For those who want to travel by car, please note that parking in Oslo is not covered by the Centre. The rate for renting a parking space can be expensive and the availability low, so we would reccommend another mode of transport if possible.

CAS provide flats with different addresses in Oslo, but they are all within walking distance of the Centre.

Fellows with any difficulty walking should let us know under ‘My Stay’ so that we can make sure the flat is located as close as possible to our address.

Please, do not share any sensitive information with us in the online form. A simple "due to health reasons" will suffice as argumentation.

Accommodations can only be provided during the academic year, from 15 August through 30 June. Accommodations for fellows will be covered out of the project's budget, and are only available during the researcher's stay at the Centre (from arrival to departure date).

You will receive more specific information regarding check-in closer to your arrival.

If fellows want to stay for a longer period before or after their research stay for leisure, CAS can extend the reservation of the accommodation, but the expense will have to be covered by the fellows themselves.

Rutines for chech-ins and outs depends on the address of the flat you've been assigned to.

Fellows will receive information about their flats by email at the end of the month prior to their arrival. Information regarding check-in and check-out rutines will also be provided here.

If you haven't yet received any information regarding you flat two week before arrival, please contact us.

Since not all flats are provided with mailboxes, you should avoid using the address of your accommodation as the postal address.

Fellows should instead list CAS' postal address as their own:

Your Name

c/o Senter for grunnforskning

Drammensveien 78

Norway

To ensure that your mail will be delivered, it is important that you use the Norwegian name of the Centre as the c/o.
