Visit from Claudia Franziska Brühwiler, Institute of Advanced Study at the University of St. Gallen
Last week, CAS had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Claudia Franziska Brühwiler, the academic director of the newly established Institute of Advanced Study at the University of St. Gallen.
Professor Brühwiler, who was in Oslo for a separate event, made a special visit to CAS, where she met with director Camilla Serck-Hansen.
The conversation focused on the unique experiences and insights gained from running a centre for advanced study. Professor Brühwiler shared her thoughts as the Institute of Advanced Study at St. Gallen prepares to announce its inaugural call for applications. The institute aims to welcome its first cohort of fellows in the fall semester of 2025.
CAS shared experiences with the CAS Research Grant for established researchers, as well as our grant for younger researchers with the Young CAS grant.
A key part of the talk focused on selecting a diverse and dynamic group of fellows, fostering community and collaboration, and evaluating the institute's impact and work. They also addressed the challenges of integrating basic research into public relations and explored current and future obstacles facing the research and university sectors.
CAS is delighted to see the network of Institutes for Advanced Study expanding, with new actors like the University of St. Gallen emphasizing the importance of basic research. We look forward to future collaborations!
