Meet Sigbjørn Løland Bore, one of the two Young CAS PIs for August 2023 to June 2025! Bore, a postdoctoral associate at the University of Oslo, will lead the Young CAS project ‘Can Ice be Described from First Principles?’.

Meet Maria Ingrid Teresa Olsson, the Young CAS PI for August 2023 to June 2025! Olsson, an associate professor at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN University), will lead the project 'Towards a New and Culturally Sensitive Understanding of Gender Inequality: Women and Men in Modern (Work) Life.'

Publication on Reading and Interpreting Runic Inscriptions in 'Futhark: International Journal of Runic Studies'

A recent publication in the 'Futhark: International Journal of Runic Studies' is based on the CAS project Reading and interpreting runic inscriptions: the theory and method of runology from 2013/2014.

Helge Jordheim awarded The 'Gad Rausings pris' 2023

Helge Jordheim, a former project leader at CAS, has been awarded the ‘Gad Rausings pris för framstående humanistisk forskargärning´ for his innovative and influential research in the field of cultural history. Jordheim led the research project 'In Sync: How Synchronization and Mediation Produce Collective Times, Then and Now' together with professor Espen Ytreberg in 2018/2019.

Alumna of the Month: Liv Ingeborg Lied

Liv Ingeborg Lied, professor at MF Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society (MF), served as project leader at CAS back in 2020/2021 together with professor Marianne Bjelland Kartzow. Their project, 'Books Known Only by Title: Exploring the Gendered Structures of First Millennium Imagined Libraries', delved into the largely unexplored category of "books known only by the title" in texts from the first millennium, focusing specifically on postulated books associated with female figures from the biblical narrative.

Meet the Project: Representation theory – Combinatorial aspects and applications

Steffen Oppermann and Aslak Buan, both professors at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), are co-leading the CAS-project “Representation theory – Combinatorial aspects and applications” this year. Their project is about representation theory, which studies nonlinear algebraic structures by representing their elements as linear transformations of vector spaces.

Cathrine Holst: Alumna of the Month

Our alumna of the month is Cathrine Holst. Holst is a professor of sociology at the University of Oslo (UiO) and led the CAS project ‘What is Good Policy? Political Morality, Feasibility, and Democracy (GOODPOL)’ together with fellow UiO faculty member Jakob Elster back in 2020/2021.
