During your stay
Our address is Drammensveien 78, 0271 Oslo.
The easiest way to get to CAS from your flat is probably by walking.
The secondary option is travelling by tram. Take tram line 13 in the direction of Bekkestua or Lilleaker and get off at the stop called 'Skarpsno'. The building is located about 100 meters in the direction back towards the city centre, on the right side of the road.
The four seasons in Norway are very distinct from each other, and fellows should bear this in mind when packing for their stay. Temperatures in Oslo average around 20 °C during the summer and around -3°C during the winter. Oslo’s climate is generally mild, but there have been both recent heat and cold waves. You are therefore encouraged to prepare accordingly.
You can follow the weather forecast provided by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute on Yr.no >
All fellows will receive two digital user accounts at CAS.
The first account will be for the intranet page on the Centre’s website, where all planning for their stay at CAS will be arranged. Fellows will receive their login information when their research agreement is signed.
The second account will be a UiO/CAS user account, which you can use to access some of our digital and technical services. This login will be provided when arriving at CAS.
Fellows affiliated with the University of Oslo can use their existing UiO user when at CAS.
Yes, all fellows can order books and articles through the online library database Oria >
By default, the website displays in Norwegian. To change the language, click on ‘MENY’ in the top right corner.
Click 'Sign in' and choose 'UiO students and employees'.
Use the following login information:
- Affiliation: BIBSYS
- Username: 5030103
- Password: entyde
Search for the name of the publication, click on the title, and find the section with the heading ‘Request’. To order, click the button labelled ‘Request’. Please add your name in the comment before submitting the request.
Books will be delivered directly to CAS, usually within 3-7 working days if the book is in stock.
If there are any issues with the service, please contact senior adviser Rune Flaten.
Yes, CAS can provide access to digital publications, but it is a bit tricky to access as we have to utilise services provided by UiO. If you are interested in accessing publications digitally through the UiO services, please contact senior adviser Rune Flaten.
We recommend that you use Mobility Print from UiO for printing at CAS.
To use our printers, you have to download and install a printer driver:
When installing the driver, you will be asked for the type of printing system you wish to install. Select "Safecom".
You will then be asked to enter your username and password. Please use the information for your CAS/UiO user.
To get your documents from the printer, please see the next enteries in this FAQ.
For assistance, please contact the head of IT, Dag Christian Bjørnsen.
Fellows affiliated with UiO can use their employee or student card at CAS’ printers. All other users need to register their key fob at the printer.
The Centre’s head of IT, Dag Christian Bjørnsen, will visit all newly arrived fellows to assist with setting up printer access. However, if you need to print right away, here are the instructions:
You must use your UiO/CAS user when printing at the Centre. Head to the printer and tap your black key fob at the card reader. If the key fob have an existing user registered to it, let the administration know.
If it is cleared, the printer will ask you to associate the key fob with a user. You do so by logging in to the printer using you UiO/CAS username (username@uio.no) and password. Once this is done, you only need to tap you key fob at the printer to log in.
If you ever forget to bring your keys, you can log in to the printer by entering your UiO/CAS username and password at the printer, and retreive your documents.
The Turret room is the Centre’s largest meeting room, with a capacity of up to 30 people. Fellows can book the room for seminars and workshops by emailing senior adviser Camilla K. Elmar. The booking is free of charge.
The Academy is available for rent for larger events. Note that it is booked by the day and is a popular venue. For events in May, June, August and September, the Academy should be booked about a year ahead. The Kavli lecture hall can seat 100 people, while the dining room seats 86.
Although CAS shares the building with DNVA, they are separate organisations. The Academy’s first and second floors are only available when rented. If you would like a tour, please ask the administration at CAS first. We will contact the Academy and arrange it for you.
An important part of the experience of being a fellow at CAS is to engage in conversations across disciplinary and national boundaries. Therefore, all fellows, affiliated researchers, and the administrative staff have lunch together. Lunch is served in the Turret room on the third floor at 12 noon, Monday through Friday.
All fellows in residence will receive a weekly email asking for their lunch orders for the coming week. Guests of the projects are also welcome to participate in the lunches.
PIs must order lunch on behalf of the projects’ guests.
The lunches are heavily subsidised, and payments are made once a semester or at the end of a fellow’s stay. Guests’ lunches will be charged to the group’s budget.
Coffee, tea, and fruit are free of charge and always available.
All fellows will be given their own set of keys to the Centre upon arrival. These must be returned before departure.
When first arriving, fellows may ring the doorbell by the main entrance to be let in by a member of the administrative staff. Any fellows who are planning on arriving on weekends or outside of office hours need to coordinate this with their PI to receive keys to the Centre.
Affiliated researchers and guests are the responsibility of their group leaders and do not receive their own keys. During office hours, they may ring the doorbell to be let in.
If any keys are lost, please inform senior executive officer Kristin L. Reyes. She will provide a replacement set.
There are no costs associated with lost keys – accidents do happen!
