The Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) at The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters is an independent research foundation. Our primary objective is to further excellent blue-sky research. We support established scholars through our CAS Research Grant, and talented young scholars through our Young CAS Grant. Our residential fellowships provide optimal working facilities and uninterrupted time for research. Additionally, we offer CAS Alumni Fellowships to former recipients of CAS grants.

CAS Research Grant

Established scholars can apply for a CAS Research Grant and receive funding for a one-year stay at the Centre. Here they will work on their research projects alongside their handpicked international research group. Each group will receive a grant of up to NOK 3.2 million, as well as office spaces and administrative support.

All faculty members who hold permanent, full-time, tenured academic positions at CAS’ partner institutions can apply.

The application deadline has expired. Next call will be announced June 2025.

Young CAS Grant

Early-career scholars can apply for a Young CAS Grant to establish a research group and gain valuable experience from organising multiple workshops and a two-month research stay at the Centre. Each project will receive a grant of NOK 750 000, as well as office spaces and administrative support.

Scholars under the age of 40 who have completed a PhD and are employed in full-time positions at one of our partner institutions can apply.
